Nitrile rubber, also known as nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), is a synthetic rubber made from a copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene. It has good elastomeric properties and is also resistant to abrasion, oil, caustics and aliphatic hydrocarbons. As a result of its strength and resiliency, it is used in several safety-related applications, and almost the ‘go to’ material when oil is present in the application. The most popular product within the nitrile range is the O ring, and found in engine components and industrial equipment applications.
